Seriously......

I went through the self-checkout lane tonight at Wal-Mart. I had to get an override for my Sharpie Markers. Are you kidding? I didn't understand why at first and then it hit me.... Are kids seriously that bored that they have to sniff Sharpie markers?

So Hard I Cried

I just saw the funniest movie I have EVER seen in my entire life. I have been a bit busy lately so I have not been "in the know" when it comes to the latest in entertainment, but luckily I have a friend who is. She had heard about a movie that is getting quite a buzz and so we went to go see it. I have never laughed so much in a movie. I haven't even cried that much in a movie. But I was laughing so hard I cried 3 times. I kept covering my face because I was afraid I was being so loud. We laughed through the credits, walking down the stairs, out the front door, through the parking lot, and in my car all the way home. It is real funny, not stupid- or over-the-top-funny. I can't wait to see it again. I will own it for sure and I will laugh all over again. It is a must see!!!! GO SEE IT!! And when we've all seen it we can blog about our favorite parts. Mine is the part with the cop.....don't want to give too much away and there is plenty to laugh at!! The movie.....Little Miss Sunshine. So fabulous!!

Not dead...just busy

I just thought I would let everyone (all 5 of you) know that I am not dead. I am alive and well, allbeit completely exhausted, but still kicking. I have successfully crammed an entire semester of nursing knowledge into my poor little unsuspecting brain in 4 days. I think I might need to stuff my ears to keep anything from leaking out. We are off and running...only 51 weeks to go until graduation. But who's counting? Don't forget me friends......

Unexpecteds

So, it is almost 3 in the morning, I have to get up in the morning for a 12 hour work day but I just had to put some thoughts out about my night. A dear friend of mine, whom I haven't seen in more than 5 years is in town for a bit before she pops over the Atlantic for some time in the Holy Land. And we ended up seeing each other at a dinner with other people I haven't seen in so long, people I knew in high school but never spent any real significant time knowing. And I was a bit trepidatious about reuniting with her around such a group that I didn't know so well but knew me in high school. Or I should say knew the girl I was in high school. But it was a great evening. So unexpected. We each went around the table throughout the dinner and gave the very much abbreviated version of where we've been and what we've been doing for the past 9 years since we all graduated. It was so neat to see these people and hear amazing stories of things that have happened in their worlds. High school was a lifetime ago and I am constantly amazed at the journeys people have taken. It was an unexpected for me. I enjoyed myself so much and I didn't feel uncomfortable in any way. It is as if we were meeting for the first time but there was an underlying sense of comfort that is there with a friend you have known for a long time. We joked about our 10 year reunion coming next year and I still have mixed feelings about it but after tonight, I just might consider it. It is hard to compose a philosophical thought at this hour but sometimes I get hung up on such petty reasons to not capture an experience. I am awed by the opportunities to grow as a person and how sometimes we pass them by. I hope my eyes and my heart are always open to new experiences and new ways to see things. I am grateful for tonight's opportunity.

Eventful Night

Last night was crazy at my house. Totally off the wall crazy. I was awakened in the middle of the night by my phone ringing. I didn't get to it in time to answer. At almost the EXACT same time the smoke alarm in my bedroom started going off. Not the kind of going off that happens with smoke but it was 3 really loud beeps that kept repeating and then pausing. So it paused and both my mom and I hadn't really woken up enough to realize what had happened so we tried to go back to sleep. At that moment my phone rings AGAIN. They asked for Michaela and I told them they had the wrong number. He then started to ask me a series of questions along the lines of who I was and I still hadn't woken up enough to realize what was going on and I said that he had the wrong number and hung up. And I laid back down. I had just gotten to sleep when the smoke alarm went off AGAIN. So mom comes in and is like "Maybe it's the battery." So I climb up there and she hands me a new battery and I put it in. Then we both go back to bed. And not a minute later my phone rings. (ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!) Again a # I don't recognize but different from the 1st one and he asks for somebody other than myself and I told him he had the wrong #. He then said "So you're not a realtor?" Uh, NO. He then asked me if I was black or white. I said "What DIFFERENCE does it make, you have the WRONG NUMBER!!" Oh my word! Who are these weird people who apparently don't sleep when it's dark? So I lay back down. And just as I am getting relaxed again, yep, the smoke alarm goes off. I was seriously on the verge of cursing (out loud, anyway) and I climb up there again to look and see. I read the back of the alarm and it says 3 repeating beeps with pausing: ALARM. Uh, no duh? But WHY!!!!!! WHY WHY WHY!!! So, I disconnect the thing from the ceiling and go to bed. Our house did not burn down and no other alarms went off, so I don't know what the deal is. But that was totally not cool. Hopefully I can get some alarm-free sleep tonight.

But on a fun note, I got an email today from my nursing program coordinator and she told us that we get laptops and PDAs issued to us for school. We have to give the laptops back but we get to keep the PDA. How fun is that? Happy Hump Day!

For any newcomers...

On the right there are some links to some of my friends' blogs. They are fun to look at too. But the first one is a link to my MySpace page. And it had pics of my time in Europe and some other fun "diddies" about me.....just FYI....

Lovely Tuesday

So today I drove my sister and my cousing to Abilene to rendezvous with my grandma so they could have a few days in Fort Worth with her before school starts. Here are some reasons why today was a lovely day:

1. There were cotton ball clouds everywhere. I love them. They are so white and fluffy and it seems like you could just bounce from one to the other.

2. I got to hug my grandma.

3. I love to sing at the top of my lungs when I am in the car. No one can hear how bad I am and it is just plain fun.

4. When you're the only one in the car, you can sing both melody and harmony.

5. I got to eat at one of my favorite places: Hickory Street Cafe

6. On the way home, all the clouds were white, but I drove under two gray ones along the way that were raining. I had 2 little mini-downpours even though it was sunny and beautiful outside.

7. I am going to get margaritas with Momo after she gets off!

8. Hickory Street take out - YUM!

9. Being in the car gives me good thinking time that I may not have otherwise b/c I am so busy.

10. Gone With the Wind is on the way from Netflix! I've never seen it - now I just have to find the time to watch it.

11. Looking at Jamie's pics of Europe. Oh, how I love you Prague......

Hope you all had as lovely a Tuesday.....

Note to Self:

Probably was not the BEST idea to study "Alterations of the Reproductive System" at Starbucks today.

Spice of Life

So I am not a spicy food eater. I don't like being in pain when I eat. But, there are 2 things that are spicy that I will endure the pain to eat. They are really too spicy, but they taste SO good that I can't help myself. 1: Chili's Boneless Buffalo Wings and 2: Cilantro's Pineapple Salsa. I continue to eat them both even though they hurt me. I can't help but wonder if this theory applies to some of my past relationships.....

Funny Story

Things happen in our lives that are funny. I mean freaking hil-a-rious. And it's sad that we don't think of them often. Today I remembered a funny story about my life. And it's not like I tell this story everyday so I don't really think about it. But it's funny and I laughed to myself when I thought about it, so I want to share. Laugh muscles ready? Here goes....

My Freshman year in college.....Spring Break.....1998....the roomie and I and a big ole group of friends were all going down to Houston/Galveston to hit the sand. We had been in Houston for a few days and were going to meet some people down at the beach house in Galveston. It was so late and we were driving in the dark, and there just wasn't a whole lot around. I remember we were hungry and were looking for food and I really had to pee. So we stopped at this random bar/restaurant type place so I could relieve myself. It was kind of a dodgy place and all the people looked like regulars. So I go into the bathroom and I am sitting there and I look up at the wall. And there on the wall is a big poster of a manly man....tan, muscular, the type girls generally don't mind looking at. Well, noticeably covering his manhood was a round wooden sign that said "Do not move". I SWEAR ON MY LIFE that I could see the neon green strings from his thong on the outside of the sign, so I thought "What is the big deal? He has a thong on." So I reach over and move the sign and to my HORROR I hear a very loud "DING DONG" doorbell sound out in the restaurant. Are you freaking kidding me?!?! So, I finish and I realize that I have to walk out. They are all going to watch the girlie pervert who wanted to sneek-a-peek walk out of the restaurant. I was MORTIFIED!!! But I think it is the funniest thing ever! None of the guys needed to go, but I always wondered if there was one the men's restroom too. But I guess no one would really be surprised by that one, eh? Of course they're going to look....but I just think it's so funny. I love that memory, even though it was more than embarassing. Hope you all enjoyed a laugh on me! Literally.....oh, something else that's funny. I was going to the bathroom today when I remembered this story....maybe I shouldn't drink so much water....
