Update on Moi
So, just to give you (you as in the people interested in my life enough to read this blog) an update on what's coming my way.......my travel nursing days appear to be numbered. There are increasingly limited jobs appearing across the country and since there are licensing issues in some states it makes it all the more difficult. So, my next journey is taking me back to Texas, more so out of a need for somewhere to sleep. I have been applying for jobs in the DFW area, relentlessly, but nothing has come up just yet. While it was not my first location choice, I am looking forward to catching up with friends and being able to see family. I have had some great experiences traveling and gotten to see so many places I have never seen before so overall I think it's been positive (my bank account may have an opposing opinion, however). I am hoping to reconnect with you, dear friends, beyond blogging and facebook and be more involved in your lives and families. Nothing like starting year 30 with a bang, right?
Spring Days
It has been nice to actually experience a spring season. In Texas is seems to go from semi-winter to summer. I am glad my dad and step-mom were able to come visit me for a few days while the cherry blossoms were blooming. It was crazy crowded but it was good to play tourist for a few days.
The Supreme Court - we actually got to go inside and sit in the room where they hold hearings. It was pretty cool.

Jefferson Memorial - this is where most of the cherry trees are. It is one of my favorite memorials and it is so nice to walk around the water surrounded in the trees!

By far, the coolest thing I have seen since I have been here was the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns. It is hard to explain, and hard to understand, I think, without some sort of experience in the military. People in general have no clue what it takes for those soldiers to get to that point in their career and I find it totally fascinating. My dad was in the Army too, so we were able to relate to each other and talk about the experience. It is not something my dad and I get to do everyday, so it was neat.
Do they give a Nobel Prize in Photography? (nudge, nudge)

DC Days
Just some random pics from my earlier days here...
Mount Vernon - I like this place a lot. It is situated on the bend of the Potomac River and I didn't realize that George Washington died here and is buried here.

Onward to DC
I was blessed with good roads and lots of sunshine on my drive from Seattle to DC. My dad navigated me from Texas and me and the kids spent 5 days on the road. I had some good views most of the way and got to see some fun things. It was interesting watching the country transition from West to East.
I went a little out of my way to see Mount Rushmore. It was totally worth it. It is just one of those things you have to see in your lifetime!
The beauty of the Black Hills (the whole time I was there I had the song from Calamity Jane in my head)
I just happened to spend one of my nights in the town where the Corn Palace is and I couldn't not see it. I thought it was pretty cool that this year's theme was America's Destinations and one of them was Seattle. It is a random thing and was fun to see.

Last Days in Seattle
My last days in Seattle were uneventful. I just tried to soak it all and in enjoy it while I could. I definitely miss the views of the mountains and being so close to the water.

Skylar
The day after my Grandma and I got back from Vancouver we got the call that my cousin Skylar was killed in a car accident. We got on the soonest flight we could out and headed home to be with my family. She would have been 16 on March 7, a year and a half older than my brother. She was more like a sister to my brother and sister being so close in age and from spending so much time together. The details of the accident are difficult to grasp and my family's dynamics are complicated but we always pull together and support each other. It was a sad and hard week and I know my family is forever changed because of it. Skylar was a beautiful, sweet girl and we all miss her.
Candadian Christmas
(Yes, I do realize it's March, but I have been wanting to do this for a while and am finally getting to it!)
My Grandma visited me for Christmas when I was in Seattle and we drove up to Vancouver to spend our holiday. I got a pretty good deal on a 5 star hotel and boy did we get a white Christmas! If you can ever get a bargain price on a fancy hotel I totally recommend it!!! It spoiled me forever!

Where we stayed
We went to this cute little island that had a great market and some great little shops. It was quite fun navigating through all the snow!

Just 10 minutes or so outside of Vancouver is Grouse Mountain, a small little mountain with a great view of the city, at least that I have seen in pictures. You have to ride a big cable car up to the mountain and it was cloudy over the city. So we got a great view of the clouds that covered the city.

Next we drove up to Whistler/Blackcomb, the site of the Winter Olympics 2010. It is so cool! We could have had better weather and a longer stay but this place is UN-believable! It's ginormous and has everything! I am saddest that I wasn't able to go back and experience more of it. If you want an amazing snow experience this is the place to go. The Olympics definitely chose it for a reason.

Overall it was a great trip and a fun way to spend my Christmas with one of my favorite people! I saw more snow than I have ever seen in my life and I got to go to one of the most awesome ski resorts!
